Each year on July 29, the Church celebrates the Feast of Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus—three siblings who shared a close friendship with Jesus and welcomed Him into their home in Bethany.
Although each sibling had a different personality, they each teach us something important about living a faithful life. Martha reminds us of the value of service and hospitality. She worked diligently to care for the needs of others, demonstrating that serving with love is a beautiful expression of faith. Mary teaches us the importance of spending time with Jesus, listening to His words, and placing Him at the center of our lives. Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead, is a powerful witness to Christ’s love, mercy, and promise of eternal life.
As families, we often find ourselves balancing the example of Martha and Mary—busy with responsibilities while longing for quiet moments with God. This feast reminds us that both service and prayer are essential. When our work is rooted in our relationship with Christ, it becomes an act of love.
At Everest Academy, we strive to form students who serve others generously while growing in a personal friendship with Jesus. On this feast day, let us ask Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus to intercede for our families, helping us to welcome Christ into our homes, our hearts, and our daily lives.
“Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.” — John 11:5
