The countdown is on! With just two days until the first day of school, excitement is building at Everest Academy. Whether your child is entering preschool, starting a new grade, or beginning the school year as an eighth-grade leader, these final two days are the perfect time to prepare for a smooth and positive start.
Get Back Into the Routine
Summer schedules can be flexible, but school mornings require a little more structure. Over the next two days, begin returning to regular bedtimes and wake-up times. A well-rested child is more prepared to learn, participate, and enjoy the first day.
Practice the morning routine now—getting dressed, eating breakfast, brushing teeth, packing a backpack, and getting out the door on time. For younger children, a little practice can make the first morning feel much less overwhelming.
Get Everything Ready the Night Before
Avoid a rushed first morning by preparing as much as possible ahead of time.
Check that your child’s:
- Uniform is clean and ready
- Shoes are prepared
- Backpack is packed
- School supplies are organized
- Lunch or snack plans are ready
- Any necessary forms or paperwork have been completed
Let your child help with these preparations. Giving children responsibility for their belongings helps build independence and confidence.
Talk About the First Day
Take a few minutes to talk with your child about returning to school. Ask what they are excited about and whether there is anything making them nervous.
For younger children, reassure them that their teachers are there to help them and that you will be there at the end of the school day. Older students may be thinking about new academic expectations, friendships, sports, or other activities.
Remind your child that it is perfectly normal to feel excited and nervous at the same time.
Put the Screens Away and Get Some Sleep
The night before school is not the time for a late-night movie marathon! Encourage your child to put away phones, tablets, and other devices well before bedtime.
Instead, consider reading together, talking about the upcoming year, or simply spending some quiet family time together.
Prepare Their Hearts
At Everest Academy, we know that preparing for school involves more than getting backpacks and uniforms ready. We want our students to begin the year ready to grow intellectually, spiritually, humanly, and apostolically.
Take a few minutes to pray together as a family. Ask God to bless your child’s teachers, classmates, and the entire Everest community.
You might pray for the grace to begin the year with:
- A willingness to learn
- A kind and generous heart
- Courage to try new things
- Patience with others
- A desire to serve
- A deeper relationship with Christ
Most Importantly—Be Excited!
Your child will take many cues from you. Talk positively about the year ahead. Remind them of the friends they will see, the teachers they will meet, and all the opportunities that await them.
And remember, parents: you don’t have to make these final two days perfect. Your child doesn’t need to have everything figured out before the first bell rings. They simply need to know that they are loved, supported, and ready to begin.
Two days to go, Everest families!
Get those backpacks ready, set those alarms, say a few extra prayers, and get ready for another wonderful year at Everest Academy.
We can’t wait to welcome our Everest Knights back!
