At Everest Academy, we often talk about perseverance — but another word for this important quality is tenacity. Tenacity means holding on tightly to what is good and true, even when challenges arise. It’s the determination to keep going when things get hard, to try again after a mistake, and to stay faithful to our goals with courage and hope.
In our world today, where comfort and instant results are so easy to find, tenacity is a rare and powerful virtue. It asks us to dig deep — not only to work hard, but to trust that God is working in and through our efforts. Tenacity is what helps a student keep studying for a test even when the subject is difficult, or what motivates an athlete to keep practicing when they feel tired or discouraged. It’s also what gives us strength in our spiritual life — to keep praying, to keep loving, to keep choosing what is right, even when it’s not easy.
At Everest, we help students grow in tenacity by teaching them that effort matters as much as achievement. Whether it’s learning to read, solving a tough math problem, or growing in virtue, we encourage them to see challenges not as roadblocks, but as opportunities to build resilience and trust in God’s plan. Teachers celebrate persistence — the student who keeps trying, the one who helps others not give up, the one who finishes strong.
Parents, too, play an important role in nurturing tenacity at home. When we model patience, consistency, and faith through daily routines, our children learn that perseverance brings peace and confidence. Reminding them that setbacks are a natural part of growth helps them see that strength doesn’t come from never falling, but from always getting back up.
Tenacity is a quiet but powerful virtue — one that shapes not just what we do, but who we become. As Scripture reminds us, “Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1–2). When our students learn to live with tenacity — in school, in friendships, and in faith — they become young people who do not give up when life gets hard, but who move forward with courage, confidence, and joy.
