Each year on August 6, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, one of the most profound moments in the life of Jesus. Recorded in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, the Transfiguration took place when Jesus led Peter, James, and John up a high mountain to pray. There, His appearance was transformed—His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared beside Him, and the voice of God the Father declared, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” (Matthew 17:5)
The Transfiguration offered the disciples a glimpse of Christ’s divine glory. It strengthened their faith before they would witness His suffering and crucifixion, reminding them that beyond the cross awaited the glory of the Resurrection.
This feast also carries an important message for each of us. Like the disciples, we often experience challenges, disappointments, and uncertainty. The Transfiguration reminds us to keep our eyes fixed on Christ, trusting that He is always with us and that His light shines even in difficult moments. It calls us to listen to His voice, deepen our relationship with Him, and allow His grace to transform our hearts.
As a Catholic school community, the Feast of the Transfiguration reminds us that education is about much more than academic growth. At Everest Academy, we strive to help students grow in wisdom, virtue, and faith so they may reflect the light of Christ in their homes, classrooms, and communities. Every lesson, prayer, and act of kindness is an opportunity to become more like Jesus.
As we celebrate this beautiful feast, may we ask the Lord to transform our hearts, strengthen our faith, and help us radiate His love to everyone we encounter. May we always remember the Father’s invitation: “Listen to Him,” and allow Christ’s light to guide us each day.
