Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Paula Lawler – Nurturing Young Writers with Wisdom and Heart

At Everest Academy, we are blessed with educators who bring not only professional expertise to the classroom, but also a depth of life experience that enriches our community. One such teacher is Mrs. Paula Lawler, our Middle School Language Arts instructor—a woman of many roles, and even more heart.

Mrs. Lawler’s journey to the Everest classroom has been anything but ordinary. She is a registered nurse, a seasoned ICU professional, and has also worked alongside her husband, Dr. Robert Lawler, in his Ob/Gyn practice. But perhaps her most cherished role has been as a mother to eleven children—a vocation she embraced wholeheartedly.

Throughout the years, Mrs. Lawler has gracefully balanced her work in healthcare with her role as a homemaker, even authoring a book titled “Graceful Motherhood in a Chaotic Home,” a testament to the love, faith, and resilience she has cultivated in her family life.

The Lawler family has been a part of the WPA/Everest community since 1999, and now, her youngest child, Tommy, is one of our 8th graders. Having homeschooled her children throughout different seasons of their education, Mrs. Lawler became deeply familiar with the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) program—a cornerstone of our Language Arts curriculum.

Her passion for the IEW methodology shines in the classroom. With its simple, step-by-step structure, Mrs. Lawler helps students build confidence, refine their grammar skills, and develop a genuine love for writing. She doesn’t just teach writing—she cultivates a classroom where words are meaningful, creativity is encouraged, and mastery is attainable.

We are truly grateful for the wisdom, warmth, and enthusiasm Mrs. Lawler brings to Everest Academy. Her unique blend of life experience and educational insight makes her an inspiring presence for our middle schoolers—and a beloved member of the Everest family.
