Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Everest Parents,

Thanks be to God. The last words of every Mass… words that should be on our lips and in our hearts at all times.

All this week our students have been discussing the virtue of gratitude. I love to listen to your children share what they are grateful for – mom, dad, grandparents, friends, food, games, pets, sports…. Gratitude is essential to our faith life. In fact, the Mass is a prayer of thanksgiving to God. The Eucharist is a sacrifice of thanksgiving and the word itself is derived from εὐχάριστος (eucharistos), meaning “thankful.”

Gratitude is a mindset. As St. Teresa of Calcutta says, “The best way to show your gratitude to God and to people is to accept everything with joy.” This is why gratitude is a virtue, a strength to be exercised – because sometimes it’s hard to accept the setbacks, the valleys, the deserts, the people who don’t bring you joy. And yet, “the secret of happiness is to live moment by moment and to thank God for all that he, in his goodness, sends to us day after day” (St. Gianna Molla).

I am truly grateful for all the blessings that God has showered upon our school and I am eagerly anticipating the blessings still to come. And they will come! So let us count our blessings – the joys and the pains – trusting in God’s providence. One huge blessing was our celebration of Grandparents Day last week. Thank you to all who made this day special for our grandparents and students. And a very special thank you to the Gala Committee for hosting the luncheon and silent auction – both were spectacular. This year’s silent auction raised over $81,000, our largest ever! Thank you to all who participated!

Later this month, the Church will celebrate the feast of Christ the King which has always been an important day for Regnum Christi and the Legionaries of Christ. Please join me in celebrating with them. CLICK HERE to register.
