Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Everest Parents,

What an exciting day yesterday was!  Our students will likely never forget where they were when Pope Leo XIV was announced as our new Holy Father. I was in adoration with 8th graders when I heard the bells and screams erupting from the classrooms closest to the chapel. See my principal pics below and be sure to click the news links compiled featuring our 6th graders who just happened to be on a field trip in Chicago at Holy Name Cathedral when the news broke out!

Earlier that day, just an hour before the white smoke appeared over the Sistine Chapel, Everest Academy students witnessed white smoke on the playground, rejoiced when the bells rang, and then heard our chaplain proclaim the announcement of our own Pope.  Habemus Papam!  Pope Andrew, a preschooler, was elected in our school mock conclave that we held yesterday morning.

This first week of May has been busy!

  • Thank you to the front office staff for preparing for our Mother’s Tribute and to our 8th graders who led our Marian procession and Crowning of Mary around the school. Thank you to all the students and families who brought in beautiful flowers showing our love for Our Blessed Mother.
  • Thank you to our parents, especially our room ambassadors, for providing fun treats all week in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.
  • Congratulations to our students for bringing home Gold and Silver awards from the State Science Fair last weekend at U of I!
  • We began MAP testing last week with math and reading. This week, we continued with language use and science. We still have many students who need to finish taking these tests. As soon as the tests are complete, we will be sending home MAP reports.

The month gets even busier!

  • Next week, please join us on Wednesday, May 14th at 1:00pm for the Resurrection Play where our older students will reenact those first days after that first Easter Sunday, while our younger students sing as the chorus.
  • The following week on May 21st at 6:30pm, all are welcome to come out for our Spring Concert featuring our Kindergarten thru 5th grade students.

At today’s Mass, we recognized our 8th graders who were confirmed this year. Immediately following the celebration, our very own Pope Andrew made a special appearance, bringing joy and smiles to all!

In Christ’s peace,

Candy Hamilton
