As October begins, the Church invites us to turn our hearts toward Mary through one of the most beloved prayers of our Catholic faith: the Holy Rosary. October is traditionally dedicated to the Rosary, offering families and students a beautiful opportunity to slow down, pray together, and reflect on the life of Jesus through the eyes of His mother.
The Rosary is more than simply repeating prayers. As we pray each decade, we meditate on important moments in the life of Christ. The Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous Mysteries help us walk with Jesus—from His birth and childhood, through His Passion and Death, to His Resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit.
Why Pray the Rosary?
The Rosary teaches us to pray with both our hearts and our minds. Its rhythm can help quiet distractions and create a peaceful space for conversation with God.
For children, the Rosary is also an opportunity to develop a lifelong habit of prayer. Even young children can participate by learning the prayers, holding the beads, or listening as their family prays.
Mary always leads us closer to her Son. When we ask for Mary’s intercession, we are asking her to pray for us and to help us follow Jesus more faithfully.
Bringing the Rosary Into Our Homes
October is a wonderful time for families to begin—or renew—a family Rosary tradition. It does not have to be complicated. Consider setting aside just 10–15 minutes one evening each week to pray together.
Families might:
- Pray one decade together each night.
- Pray the Rosary before bedtime.
- Have each family member choose an intention.
- Pray for a particular family member, friend, or need.
- Pray for our priests, teachers, and school community.
- Keep a Rosary in a place where the family gathers for prayer.
- Let children take turns leading a decade.
The goal is not perfection. What matters is making time to turn our hearts toward Christ.
The Rosary at Everest
At Everest Academy, we want our students to understand that prayer is not simply something we do at school—it is an essential part of living our Catholic faith. During October, we encourage our students and families to make the Rosary a special part of their prayer life.
As we pray, we can also remember the intentions of our Everest family: our students, teachers, staff, parents, priests, and the many people who support our school.
May this October be a time when our school community grows closer to Jesus through Mary. May the Rosary bring peace to our homes, strength to our families, and a deeper love for Christ.
“The Rosary is a prayer both so humble and simple like Mary, and theologically rich in Biblical content.” — Pope St. John Paul II
This month, let us take up our Rosaries and pray—not simply because October is the Month of the Rosary, but because every prayer brings us closer to Christ.
Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, pray for us!
