“Not all of us can do great things… but we can do small things with great love.” – St. Teresa of Calcutta
As a Catholic school focusing on forming our students to be leaders, we are committed to helping each child discover their God-given gifts, develop these talents, and instill a desire to share them with others. This process begins with providing opportunities for each student to experience being loved, appreciated, and valued. In turn, we hope that this experience fosters gratitude and a desire to share their love with others.
At Everest Academy we cultivate compassion and responsiveness to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of others, developing an understanding of our social responsibilities, and instilling a spirit of service. Through practical experiences, one can develop the necessary human qualities that aid in apostolic action: leadership, teamwork, generosity, charity, tenacity in the face of difficulties, and compassion for others.
As our students serve people in our community, they become aware of how they can make a distinctive difference in the lives of others. Each class, preschool through 8th grade, chooses a focus for the school year – e.g., to support our local firefighters, to adopt elderly residents at a nursing home, to help those served at a homeless shelter or crisis pregnancy center. As a class, they learn about whom they are serving and develop a plan to raise money, obtain supplies, and pray for those receiving their acts of charity.
Recently, our kindergarten through second-graders visited Franciscan Village to share songs and special gifts that brought much joy to the residents. Our fourth graders traveled to Morningstar Mission to decorate and give gifts for a Valentine’s party for the homeless. These simple acts of charity not only help our students grow in kindness and compassion but also teach them that they have the power to impact others’ lives for good.
