Each year on July 3, the Church commemorates St. Thomas the Apostle, one of Jesus’ twelve disciples best known for his moment of doubt—and ultimate profession of faith.
Often referred to as “Doubting Thomas,” he is remembered for his initial skepticism when the other apostles told him they had seen the risen Christ. “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were,” Thomas said, “I will not believe” (John 20:25). A week later, when Jesus appeared again and invited Thomas to touch His wounds, Thomas responded with a profound declaration: “My Lord and my God!”
St. Thomas’ journey from doubt to deep faith offers a powerful reminder that questioning can lead to greater belief. His story comforts those who wrestle with uncertainty, showing that Jesus meets us with patience and love, even in our struggles.
Tradition holds that Thomas traveled far beyond the Roman Empire to preach the Gospel, reaching as far as India, where he is honored as the founder of the Indian Church and is revered by millions of Christians to this day.
At Everest Academy, we honor St. Thomas not just for his moment of hesitation, but for the strength of his ultimate conviction. His feast day encourages all of us—students, families, and faculty alike—to grow in faith, ask questions with an open heart, and always seek the truth of Christ.
St. Thomas the Apostle, pray for us!
