As the school year ends and summer fun begins, it’s easy to let routines slip and academics take a back seat. But did you know that students can lose two to three months’ worth of learning over the summer? This learning loss—commonly called the “summer slide”—can add up over the years and make it harder for students to start strong in the fall.
At Everest Academy, we believe that summer should be full of fun and learning. With just a little structure and intention, parents can help children of all ages stay sharp during the break.
At Everest Academy, we’re committed to helping students grow not just during the school year, but year-round. Let’s work together to ensure every student returns in August ready to learn, lead, and shine! 🌞📚

Preschool–Kindergarten: Learning Through Play
For our youngest learners, summer learning doesn’t need to look like schoolwork. Keep things fun and hands-on:- Read with your child every day
- Practice counting and shapes during everyday activities
- Explore nature, visit the library, and work on fine motor skills with crafts
Grades 1–5: Keep the Curiosity Alive
Elementary students benefit from routines that include reading, writing, and basic math:- Join a local summer reading program or create one at home
- Use math apps, flashcards, or games to keep skills sharp
- Encourage journal writing or letter writing to relatives
Grades 6–8: Build Independence and Critical Thinking
Middle schoolers can take on more responsibility for their learning:- Set reading goals with books that interest them
- Review math concepts or take on real-world problem solving (budgeting, planning a trip, etc.)
- Start a passion project or take an enrichment course online or through a local library
Make It Part of the Day
You don’t need to run a summer school at home. Just 15–30 minutes a day of focused learning can prevent the summer slide and keep your child confident and curious. At Everest Academy, we’re committed to helping students grow not just during the school year, but year-round. Let’s work together to ensure every student returns in August ready to learn, lead, and shine! 🌞📚
