As Catholics, the season of Lent invites us to grow closer to God through three important practices: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. While prayer strengthens our relationship with God and fasting helps us grow in self-discipline, almsgiving calls us to look beyond ourselves and serve others with generosity and love.
Almsgiving is more than simply giving money. It is an act of charity rooted in compassion and a recognition that all we have is a gift from God. When we share what we have with those in need, we are living out Christ’s command to love our neighbors. Almsgiving reminds us that faith is not only something we believe—it is something we practice through our actions.
At Everest Academy, almsgiving is woven into the life of the school community. Students are encouraged from an early age to recognize the needs of others and respond with kindness and generosity. Through service projects, charitable collections, and outreach opportunities, students learn that even small acts of giving can make a meaningful difference.
Throughout the year, Everest Academy students participate in service initiatives that support local organizations and families in need. Whether collecting food for local pantries, supporting mothers and children through outreach efforts, or organizing service days, these experiences help students understand the true meaning of Christian charity. They see firsthand that their actions can bring hope and joy to others.
These acts of generosity also form students in the virtues. Almsgiving teaches gratitude, empathy, and responsibility. It helps young people recognize that they are part of something greater than themselves and that they have the ability—and the responsibility—to serve others.
Most importantly, almsgiving reflects the heart of the Gospel. Christ calls us to care for the poor, the vulnerable, and those who are struggling. When we give to others with a joyful spirit, we are following His example and sharing His love with the world.
At Everest Academy, the commitment to faith, service, and virtue formation ensures that students not only learn about almsgiving, but live it. By forming hearts that are generous and compassionate, the school continues to nurture a community where faith is put into action and where students grow into leaders who serve others.
Through prayer, sacrifice, and generosity, almsgiving becomes a powerful reminder that even the smallest gift—when given with love—can transform lives. ✝️
